PDP handles party crisis better than other political parties -Fintiri
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Convention Committee, has said the party has excelled better than the ruling All Progressive Congress and other political parties in dealing with its own internal party crisis.
Governor Fintiri disclosed this upon his return to Yola from the National Executive Committee meeting of the PDP, on Saturday, following his appointment and swearing-in as chairman of the PDP convention committee.
He said Nigerians expect the party to field an intelligent and vibrant president come 2023 and therefore has to get the convention right.
Fintiri said the PDP has proven itself better than other parties in crisis management because the party still retained functional institutional capacities of ingenous as well as broad based membership of experienced personalities, it actively relies on for counsel and guidance.
“The PDP has proven itself to be successful in dealing with crisis because of the ingenuity of the people in the party, having had experience, in the past. It is the only party, that has institutional capacity that is functioning and working- the National Working Committee is working, the Board of Trustees is working, the PDP Governor’s Forum is working; The former governor’s, former ministers and elders of the party are giving their own advise, sharing and bringing their own experiences also on board. Collectively, we are succeeding because of this internal crisis management mechanism which is functional and working. So it is always easier for us to resolve our crisis, even as one of the biggest party, ever, that still has not changed its name or membership,” he said.
The governor, in his veiled reference to the removal of Uche Secondus as chariman of party, said the outcome showed “no victor and no vanquished.”
He said, “From the way we have always been settling our crisis, there has never been a winner. It has always been, no victor, no vanquished. A win-win for all our members because we are equal and we respect ourselves.”
He called on Nigerians to expect one of the best ever National Working Committee to emerge from the convention that will guide the party into the 2023 general elections.
He added that the task before convention committee and as well as all members of the party, is onerous because Nigerians were looking to PDP to give them an intelligent and vibrant president, under the party’s platform come 2023.
He sued for support of PDP stakeholders to deliver credible and rancour free convention as the irreducible minimum Nigerians yearning for change expect from the PDP as only credible platform to unseat the APC.
