Kidnappers demand N15m ransom for Ekiti APC chieftain
Abductors of an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ekiti State, Mr Ebenezer Busuyi have demanded N15 million ransom for his release.
Busuyi, who is also the supervisor for Agriculture in Ekiti West Council area, was kidnapped last Thursday evening along the Ilawe-Erinjiyan-Ekiti Road by gunmen.
He was waylaid and whisked away to the forest while driving in his car along the route.
Family sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said the kidnappers contacted the abductee’s relative on Saturday and demanded for N15m before he could be released.
“The kidnappers called his wife to demand for N15 million as ransom and we are still pleading with them to reduce it. It is really a difficult situation for the family, ” one of the sources said.
Ekiti Police Command spokesman, ASP Sunday Abutu, who said he was not aware of ransom demand by the gunmen, said the joint rescue operation of the police, Amotekun Corps and local hunters continues.
He said: ” As I speak with you, our men and officers in partnership with the Amotekun Corps and local hunters are already in the bush searching for the victim.
“We won’t fold our arms and allow criminal gangs to hold Ekiti by jugular, we are determined to redouble our efforts to make Ekiti safe from kidnappers.
“But we want our people to be security conscious . Let them report strange faces to the nearest police station for prompt action. This is the time for all of us to be watchful.”
