ISWAP Attacks Military Base In Borno
Suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have reportedly attacked a military base at Kwande community in Damboa local government area of Borno State and carted away ammunition after battling troops.
Our source gathered that the terrorists stormed the military base Tuesday evening with about 10 gun trucks. The attack came few hours before President Muhammadu Buhari’s official visit to Borno State today.
A security source who disclosed the attack to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said the terrorists burnt down one armored personnel carrier (APC) and a gun truck.
The source said, “The insurgents targeted the military base. They came at about 4pm on Tuesday but due to the sand storms, it was difficult for soldiers to repel them. They burnt down the base including APC and four other vehicles.”
Another security source confirmed the incident saying that the base came under attack from gunmen believed to be ISWAP fighters at about 4pm and it lasted for about an hour and 30 minutes, adding that the terrorists seized the opportunity of the sand storm to penetrate the base.
According to the source the base at Kwamdi came under attack but the troops did not lose any of the soldiers to the attackers, but the base suffered some damage. Military authorities have not yet issued any statement with regards to the attack.
