Edojobs, German devt agency train 100 youths on leather production

The Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs) in collaboration with German development agency, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) has trained and graduated 100 youths on the production of leather products.

The intensive workshop, which lasted for over three months, engaged the youths in the area of manufacturing handbags, shoes, belt, wallets and other leather items.

Managing Director, Edojobs, Ukinebo Dare, said the training was part of the state government’s determination to equip youths with skills to make them self-reliant.

Dare noted that EdoJobs is partnering with several organisations in the state to build the capacity of youths and other business owners to run successful businesses in order to expand the economic base of the state.

Present at the graduation ceremony are the Chairperson, Edo State Taskforce Against Human Trafficking, Professor Yinka Omorogbe; Chairman of Network For The Advancement Of People With Visible Disabilities (NAPVID) represented by the organization’s Head of Media and Communications, Mr. Princewill Okojie and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Stella-Marris Imasuen, represented by the Director of Science, Vocational and Technical Education, Dr. George Osawaru.

Imasuen urged the participants to attach themselves to professionals and strive to improve on their skills, adding, “You need to have a mindset, an attitude that will make you an enterprise owner.”

She reassured that the state government will continue to provide the enabling environment to ensure that businesses thrive in the state.

Meanwhile, the participants commended the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led state government for giving them the opportunity to learn a trade to improve their livelihoods.
