Several Communities in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo state, have been thrown into total blackout following the power outage occasion by technical fault yet to be identified by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, in charge of the region.

Findings showed that seven Communities are affected by the perennial power outage which have cost residents and business owners huge financial spendings to maintain other sources of power most especially fuel for generating sets, coupled with the effects done to the social economic life of the people.

Despite efforts to restore power back to the communities by the BEDC team of service engineer, the blackout has persisted for over seven days with empty promises that the light will soon be restored.

A community leader, the Odionwere of Iduwen-Ehigie, Pa. John Aghimien, one of the affected communities, at Egba road Along Benin-Auchi expressway, who spoke to Wonderful media, disclosed that effort is at top gear to restore power to his community and several others affected by the power outage.

He however appealed to BEDC authorities to expedite action as he bears the pain of residents and other consumers.

Pa Aghimien further lamented the inability of the BEDC authorities to install the new 500KVA transformer bought by the community for over three years now, he disclosed that concrete effort by the community and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, to get it done has always met resistance by power that be without reason even after solid promise has been made by the unit responsible.

He added that the community is over loaded as some residents in neighbouring community, are currently benefiting from the existing 500KVA currently serving the community, and with the additional 500KVA, the power of over loading will be a thing of the past, if installed.

Meanwhile, BEDC’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr Tayo Adekule, who spoke to Wonderful media on phone, is calling for patients as he expressed confidence that the team of service engineers will soon restore power back to the people.

By the time of publication of this report, the affected communities which includes, Iduwen-Ehigie, Idumufua, Ekose, Ayen, Egba and others, are still experiencing total blackout.
