Akwa Ibom community expresses worry over abandoned NTA station
Indigenes of Eket Local Government of Akwa Ibom State have expressed worry over the deteriorating condition of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Channel 35 Station in the area.
The station was built about 15 years ago, fully equipped, staffed, test-run but curiously abandoned before it was inaugurated.
Our correspondent reports that the NTA station, said to have been attracted to the area by Chief Nduese Essien while he was serving as the House of Representatives member for Eket Federal Constituency, has been overtaken by bushes, reptiles and rodents.
The President-General of Ekid People’s Union, Dr. Samuel Udonsak, who inspected the station, lamented why such a worthwhile and people’s-oriented project with potential could be left to rot away.
He urged the authorities to begin reactivation of the station in keeping with the ongoing digital switch-over in the information sector.
