Assailants Behead Guard, Raze Imo Lawmaker, Ex-AG Homes
Suspected assailants yesterday beheaded a security guard and razed the country home of the lawmaker representing Orsu state constituency, Hon Ekene Nnodumele in Ebenato, Awo Idemili area of Imo State.
Unconfirmed sources said the country home of the immediate past attorney general of the state, Chief Cyprian Akaolisa was also razed by the fleeing assailants.
The lawmaker had during a phone call confirmed the attack saying, “Yes, my house was burnt and my gate man beheaded. Am still waiting to know if there are more developments, and I don’t know why”, he said.
Efforts to reach Akaolisa proved abortive, as he did not take calls put across to his line.
Police spokesperson for Imo State, SP Bala Elkana told our Source that police teams have been sent to the locations to confirm the development adding that investigations will commence immediately.
Reacting to claims of insurgency in the hinterlands, Elkana said, “The heat in Owerri is too hot for these people so they shifted to the hinterlands. However, the Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro has deployed massive presence to all parts of the state. They will not be able to operate I can assure you”, he said.
According to him, there is no need for Imo people to lose sleep over insecurity because the police are working round the clock to ensure the safety of people and their properties.
Imo State came under heavy insecurity challenges in the last three months but was checked in the past two weeks.
Already nightlife was gradually returning to Owerri before the attack on the lawmaker’s house.
